Our Millie adores her pet sitters at Pets Tourism, and we feel very comfortable leaving her and our home in their care.

I can’t agree more with the other comments. Henk is a really great person and just great to come back home and see our dogs happy and healthy! Nice to have met and surely will do this again, gives us the opportunity to travel without any worries.

Throughout many college years I trusted my fellow companions to Debora while I was away and they loved her! Although far away she would be my 1st person to call to come and petsit.

Frequently asked questions

  • Who or what is PETs Tourism?

PETs Tourism is an online platform where homeowners can find pet sitters to care for their pets during their absence (petsitting).

We also help you find petfriendly accommodations you can take your pet to on holidays. We are based in Portugal.

  • How do I find a pet sitter at PETs Tourism?

Simple: go to the petsitters page, filter for and choose a petsitter and request a booking in their calendar. You will receive a link to an intake form to plan a Meet & Greet. We will process your request as soon as possible and contact you for a visit to your address. PETs Tourism sitters are available 365 days a year.

  • How long does it take before I can expect a response from PETs Tourism?

Don't worry, you will immediately receive confirmation of your desired day and time for the meet and greet at your location the same day.

  • How much does it cost to use a first Meet & Greet?

It is completely free throughout the Algarve to submit an initial application, get in touch with the pet sitters and do a Meet & Greet.

For a second Meet & Greet, a fee is charged based on the distance and driving time.

  • How much do I have to pay the sitter per day/night for a sitter at my location 24/24?

Each petsitter has clear pricing without hidden extra costs. The price depends on the number of sitting days and how many pets you have that the sitter must take care of during the sitting period. The agreements made are established in writing and confirmed to you before the start of the sitting period.

For additional work during a sitting period, you can personally determine with the sitter the amount of the compensation that you can pay directly to the sitter afterwards, so you always know in advance where you stand.

  • Will the sitter also receive friends?

No, unless you expressly consent and for maintenance of social contacts, family and other pet sitters, no other pets or children in your home.

  • What does communication look like during the sitting period?

During the sitting period, we use a temporary WhatsApp group between you and your sitter and our PETs Tourism office for quick communication. This allows us to quickly answer your questions and discuss the best solution in the event of an emergency.

  • I'm not happy with the sitter I booked, can I book another sitter instead?

Yes, of course. You can cancel the booking and submit your request to do this, please contact the sitter in your Whatsapp group. If another sitter is available, they will contact you immediately for a meeting at your home. PETs Tourism has a large roster of freelance pet sitters plus an additional backup roster.

  • Does PETs Tourism have liability insurance?

Both the pet owner (third party liability insurance) and the pet sitter (third party liability insurance) must check whether these insurance policies cover the situation in question. This is crucial because it can mitigate the financial consequences of any damage. In general, the pet sitter is responsible for the care and well-being of the animal. If the pet sitter is negligent and this results in damage or injury to the animal, the sitter may be held liable. In addition, the sitter may be liable for any damage to the home. Each sitter on the team has a current and valid third party liability insurance.

  • How many hours per day is the is the sitter present?

The sitter is always present at your home with your pets, day and night. Only few of our petsitters offer daytime-only sitting; this is called daycare and is shown in their profile.

During the day the sitter may be absent for shopping or lunch during the time agreed with you.

  • When does the sitting period end?

The sitting period ends when you return to your home, the sitter will only leave when you are back home.

If you are delayed during the return journey, your sitter will remain at home and with your pets.

  • What does a PETs Tourism sitter do during the sitting period?

Firstly, ensure that your pet also gets a holiday feeling during your absence, the attention and care that your pets are used to.

  • How many pets are cared for by the sitter?

If you have more than 2 dogs that need to be cared for, it will be assessed during the meet and greet whether the care provided by the sitter is acceptable to him/her and you. If necessary, we will offer another sitter or a 2nd sitter who can assist the sitter.

  • Does PETs Tourism also have transportation for my pet?

Yes, we offer free transport to the vet and dogwalking area.

  • Can I change my booking later?

Yes, if a sitter is available for the changed dates, this can be done for a fee of 10 euros per request. PETs Tourism has a large roster of freelance pet sitters plus an additional backup roster.

  • Will you automatically extend my booking if I do not return on the agreed date?

  • When do I have to pay the sitter?

Upon your return after the sitting period.

  • Can I make a reservation far in advance?
