About us
PETs Tourism helps pet owners travel stress-free in Portugal, combining trusted pet-sitting services across the Algarve with a carefully curated selection of genuinely pet-friendly accommodations.
Founded by Hendrik & Carolien Wijmans, our story in Portugal goes back to the early 1990s - long before online travel existed.
We operated as a licensed tour operator promoting holiday homes across all regions of Portugal, worked with hundreds of travel agencies in the Netherlands and Belgium, pioneered rural tourism stays, managed private vacation properties for owners, ran airport transfer services, and spent over a decade auditing hotel quality and hospitality standards as mystery guests for a national hotel chain. Alongside this, caring for pets during owners’ absence became a natural part of our work.
That rare mix of tour operating, hospitality quality control, property management, and hands-on pet care now forms the foundation of PETs Tourism: a trusted network built on experience, local knowledge, and a genuine love for Portugal - helping travellers and their pets feel truly welcome.
